About Open Redstone Engineers

Open Redstone Engineers is a creative Minecraft network for building real computer-like machines with redstone. Players make logic gates, adders, ALUs, calculators, displays, and full CPUs instead of chasing a normal survival economy.

New players start in the School server, where they receive a plot and can learn from experienced redstoners. Experienced builders can apply for the Build server, gain WorldEdit access, work on larger plots, and unlock the Survival world.

The network also includes separate spaces for projects, boat tracks, competitions, and other experimental builds. It feels closer to a shared engineering workshop than a typical SMP.

What Makes It Different

ORE treats redstone like computer engineering. Its School-to-Builder path turns learning logic into the main progression, and its best projects are working machines rather than decorative builds.

Use the network hub to move between specialized worlds. School is for learning and smaller projects. Build is for approved members with larger plots and WorldEdit. Boat supports player-made tracks, while Competition provides themed redstone challenges. Survival offers a separate SMP for Builders.

History of Open Redstone Engineers

Open Redstone Engineers was active by late 2011, when early members were already using Minecraft redstone to study logic and computer design. The School server became an important part of that early community, giving beginners a place to learn from more advanced players.

By 2012, members were moving from basic circuits into serious computational projects. Some early ORE participants went on to build processors and teach others, while the community itself developed a strong focus on binary logic, computer architecture, and collaboration.

The community expanded through the early 2010s. Members worked on adders, multipliers, dividers, displays, and CPUs, while tutorials and project discussions helped turn individual experiments into shared learning. ORE was already a recognizable redstone engineering community by 2013.

In 2019, ORE operated as a connected network rather than a single creative world. A central hub linked School, Build, Play, Boat, Competition, Freebuild, and Survival spaces. Different ranks controlled access to the more advanced worlds, while the Play server allowed more experimental interaction with redstone, explosions, and PvP.

Around 2020, Minecraft access, Discord, forums, and the online schematics system became more closely connected. Account linking allowed members to use the wider community tools and share their work beyond the game.

The School and Builder paths remained central through 2023 and 2025. Students received 128-by-128 plots, while Builders gained larger Build plots, WorldEdit, Survival access, and a possible route toward Engineer rank. Builder trials focused on practical knowledge such as binary arithmetic, logic gates, adders, ALUs, and signed numbers.

In 2024 and 2025, ORE continued using community elections and formal applications to manage its volunteer staff. Engineers took on teaching and trial duties, while new Builder applications showed that CPU design and computational redstone were still the network's main standard.

During 2026, the network continued improving backups, restarts, chat tools, permissions, and project collaboration. It remains a Java redstone community where beginners can study in School and experienced players can develop ambitious machines on Build.

What does a Builder trial cover?

Builder trials can cover binary and binary arithmetic, logic gates, bitwise logic, redstone adders and ALUs, and two's complement for signed numbers.

Can I use Litematica on ORE?

Litematica is allowed, but automated pasting is not. Builds must still be placed through permitted server actions.

What does Engineer rank add?

Engineers receive a 2-by-2 plot area on Build, a personal teleport command, access to a separate MCHPRS world, and the ability to help with Builder trials and Engineer interviews.
