About FroobWorld

FroobWorld is a small, long-running semi-vanilla SMP where survival stays close to Minecraft. Every player, including staff, plays in survival, so major builds come from normal gameplay rather than admin shortcuts.

The server leans hard into cooperation. Players settle in themed towns, share projects, use teleport commands to connect distant bases, and trade through honor-based shops. You can still claim land and lock containers, but the rules make trust part of daily play.

Map 12 is the active world. It includes an overworld, Nether, and End, plus resettable border regions that help players find fresh resources. Older maps from Map 5 onward can be explored through the archive server.

What Makes It Different

FroobWorld makes trust part of the gameplay. Player shops often use honor-based payment, and the no-griefing and no-stealing rules protect many places even when they are not claimed. Land claims and container locks add extra security without making every interaction feel locked down.

FroobWorld Gameplay

Most play revolves around cooperative survival. Players choose a place to settle, join or create a town, build shared projects, trade supplies, and connect distant bases with commands such as /home, /back, /tpa, and /friend. /rtp helps new players move away from crowded areas near spawn.

History of FroobWorld

FroobWorld was created by froobynooby on 2 November 2011, shortly after the shutdown of OmniaMC. It began during Minecraft Beta 1.8.1, and several early ideas were inspired by that previous server.

The first years were divided into short map eras. Map 1 lasted only during November 2011, while Map 2 ran from November 2011 into January 2012. Maps 3 and 4 followed through the first half of 2012, as the server moved through Minecraft 1.1 and 1.2.

Map 5 opened in May 2012 and Map 6 followed in August. Map 7 ran from March to December 2013, then Map 8 carried the server from December 2013 into March 2016. Each map developed its own player-built towns, projects, and local culture.

Map 9 ran from March 2016 to July 2018. Map 10 then lasted more than three years, from July 2018 until December 2021. During the Map 10 era, portals became a way to connect player towns and other points of interest, adding travel links without turning the server into a heavily customized network.

Map 11 began on 3 December 2021 for Minecraft 1.18. It was expanded for the 1.19, 1.20, 1.21, and 1.21.4 updates instead of being replaced immediately. The map eventually grew to a 56,250 by 14,000 block border before it was retired.

On 28 June 2025, Map 12 replaced Map 11 for the 1.21.6 update. The new map continued FroobWorld's long-running survival format while adding another fresh space for towns, regional projects, shops, and player-made history.

The server now combines a current survival map with an archive of older worlds from Map 5 onward. Its present community still builds around towns and shared projects, while border regions provide renewable places to gather resources without disturbing the settled world.
