About Modern Beta SMP
Build towns, rail lines, farms, and bases in a shared world that behaves like Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 rather than modern Minecraft. Modern Beta keeps the old game's slower, self-directed survival style while letting players connect from modern Java clients, Bedrock Edition, or a Beta 1.7.3 client.
What Makes It Different
Modern Beta changes more than textures. It brings back Beta terrain, old combat and movement, missing hunger, instant bows, period-accurate sounds, and many recognizable Beta quirks through server-side systems and resource packs. The server also avoids land-claim plugins and locked chests, relying on activity logs, Discord reports, manual moderation, and rollbacks to protect the shared world.
Semi-Vanilla servers keep Minecraft’s ordinary survival progression while adding a limited set of server-specific changes around it.
The server preserves survival building and exploration while adding extensive server-side systems that recreate Beta mechanics, recipes, visuals, and world behavior.
A persistent world is a Minecraft server world that keeps its player-made changes and ongoing progress across repeated visits.
Player construction, towns, shops, rail lines, and other changes remain part of an ongoing shared map with an online world view.
An SMP is a multiplayer Minecraft survival world where players gather resources, build, and progress alongside one another.
The server is explicitly a shared multiplayer survival SMP centered on homes, towns, farms, transport routes, and community projects.
Survival servers let players gather resources, craft gear, build shelter, and develop a base while staying alive in a dangerous world.
Players gather resources, craft, explore, build bases, establish farms, and progress through self-directed survival play.
The server recreates the feel of Beta 1.7.3 with no sprinting, no hunger bar, instant bow shots, Beta-style combat values, old boat behavior, limited block and item recipes, and mechanics such as nightmares from sleeping in unsafe areas. Modern clients do not need a third-party launcher or client mod for the normal Java connection.
Progress is deliberately open-ended. Players gather resources, establish homes, expand farms, explore the Beta-generated landscape, build transport routes, and work on personal or community projects instead of following a rank ladder or mandatory quest chain.
Server-side plugins, datapacks, and resource packs restore Beta models, textures, sounds, music, recipes, world generation, mob behavior, combat, boats, portals, and other mechanics. The normal modern Java connection does not require installing a custom client mod.
The world uses Beta-style overworld and Nether terrain, with the End removed and the build height returned to Y 0-127. Player construction remains part of a persistent shared map that can also be viewed online.
PvP is not the server's main focus. Combat follows the recreated Beta rules, with slower movement, no critical hits, instant bows, and old weapon damage values shaping encounters.
Community towns, shops, and player-run trading are part of the shared-world experience. The server does not center progression on a money grind or purchasable gameplay power.
Community events, server videos, suggestions, and player activities are coordinated through the Discord community.
The Discord is used for build sharing, town and shop information, suggestions, player reports, events, and general community discussion. The server's social style is built around a shared world where players are expected to respect one another's builds and belongings.
Stealing, griefing, hacking, hate speech, and unauthorized changes to another player's work are prohibited. Large builds should be marked clearly because the server does not use claim plugins. Certain intentionally restored Beta glitches, including block transmutation and sand or gravel duplication, are allowed while other exploits are not.
Players can make donations for a permanent Donator rank, buy a monthly Premium rank for priority in the join queue and Discord-to-Minecraft chat access, or purchase map markers. Premium costs $4.99 for 31 days, while the store lists donations from $1.59 and map markers from $2.99. Community donations help cover hosting, DDoS protection, and domain costs.
A Minecraft server recreation of Beta 1.7.3 that restores its historical mechanics, content, audiovisual style, or world behavior.
Server-side plugins, datapacks, and resource packs recreate Beta 1.7.3 mechanics, visuals, recipes, mobs, sounds, and other historical behaviors.
A no-claims survival world leaves players responsible for choosing locations, hiding valuables, and defending their own builds.
Players mark planned builds clearly instead of claiming land; logs, reports, manual moderation, and rollbacks handle violations.
World generation that recreates terrain shapes, environmental layouts, and geographic variety associated with Minecraft’s Beta-era landscapes.
The overworld and Nether use Beta-style terrain generation rather than modern world layouts, creating the landscape for the shared survival map.
Combat rules modeled on Minecraft Beta-era damage, movement, attack behavior, and other historical fighting mechanics.
Encounters use slower Beta movement, old weapon damage values, and no critical hits instead of modern combat timing and movement.
Open-ended progression lets players advance through self-directed projects, improving capabilities and accomplishments without a mandatory linear advancement ladder.
Players choose homes, farms, towns, transport, and building projects without mandatory quests or ranks guiding advancement.
Storage containers remain accessible without player-set locking mechanics, so ownership relies on trust, rules, or moderation.
The server does not use locked chests, so players protect belongings through community expectations and rule enforcement rather than container locks.
A survival ruleset without a hunger meter, so food is not consumed to maintain a standard hunger bar.
Survival omits the hunger bar, removing hunger management from the normal resource and exploration loop.
Bow mechanics that let players fire arrows immediately without the modern draw-time behavior.
Bows use instant Beta-style shots, changing ranged combat timing and removing the need to charge a modern bow draw.
A restricted crafting system that omits or changes recipes to match an earlier Minecraft ruleset.
The server limits block and item recipes to match the Beta-era progression rather than exposing the full modern crafting catalog.
Intentionally preserved historical Minecraft glitches that become accepted or supported behaviors within a retro ruleset.
Several restored Beta glitches, including block transmutation and sand or gravel duplication, are allowed under the current rules.
A movement ruleset that removes sprinting, making travel and combat rely on ordinary walking, jumping, and terrain.
Players cannot sprint, so movement across the Beta landscape and positioning during combat use the older slower movement model.
A reduced vertical build range modeled on historical Minecraft limits, restricting construction to a lower maximum height.
The world restores the Beta build range from Y 0 through Y 127, limiting vertical construction compared with modern Minecraft.
A world configuration that excludes Minecraft’s End dimension, leaving the available dimensional set intentionally incomplete.
The End is removed, while the Beta-style overworld and Nether remain the server's available dimensions.
A sleep mechanic where resting in unsafe conditions can trigger frightening hostile or disruptive consequences.
Sleeping in unsafe areas can produce nightmares, adding a specific risk to choosing where players rest in the shared world.
Player-created rail lines connect bases, towns, or destinations as infrastructure for shared-world travel.
Players build rail lines and other transport routes between homes, towns, and projects across the persistent Beta landscape.
Community towns are shared settlement areas where players build, organize projects, and develop a connected social hub.
The shared world supports community towns containing player homes, farms, shops, and collaborative or independent building projects.
A live world map displays an interactive overview of explored terrain, player locations, bases, or notable landmarks.
A dedicated online map lets players view the ongoing shared world, its geography, and player construction outside Minecraft.
Historical boat behavior using older movement, collision, or handling rules instead of modern Minecraft boat mechanics.
Boats follow restored old behavior, making water travel and boat handling different from the mechanics used in current Minecraft.
Player-operated shops let community members offer resources or crafted goods to one another through locally chosen prices or exchanges.
Community towns include shops and player-run trading, providing resource exchange without making a centralized money grind the main progression path.
