About Minecart Rapid Transit
Build a town, connect it with rail, and turn individual creations into part of a shared city landscape. Minecart Rapid Transit is a greylisted creative freebuild server where guests can explore towns, cities, airports, roads, and transit lines before applying for building privileges. Its worlds are shaped by long-term community construction rather than survival resets or plot-by-plot building.
What Makes It Different
The transit network is not just decoration around a creative server. MRT stations, roads, airports, and player-run transport lines give towns a shared infrastructure to plan around, while higher building ranks can unlock station renaming, station editing, vehicles, and larger city privileges. The result feels closer to developing a connected region than filling isolated plots.
Freebuild is a Minecraft building mode centered on creating structures and landscapes without a required combat, quest, or level-progression path.
Players construct towns, cities, roads, railways, airports, and public spaces in a shared world without plots.
CityBuild is a Minecraft building mode where players develop homes, businesses, and public spaces into connected urban districts.
Long-term play centers on developing connected towns, cities, businesses, and urban infrastructure.
Creative is a Minecraft building mode where players construct and test structures with unrestricted access to building materials instead of gathering them through survival play.
The server explicitly operates as a creative building environment, with members placing and editing structures freely.
A persistent world is a Minecraft server world that keeps its player-made changes and ongoing progress across repeated visits.
Old World and New World retain player-built cities, transport corridors, roads, and other community projects.
This is a creative freebuild server with no conventional plot grid. Members place and edit buildings, streets, railways, businesses, airports, and public spaces on generally available land, while guests can tour the worlds, ride MRT lines, use public facilities, and interact with existing builds. New roads, rail extensions, and other major infrastructure projects may require staff approval and permission from nearby towns.
Progression comes through membership, building quality, community trust, and the scale of a player’s town or city. Guests can apply to become Members, then work toward Citizen and Trustee ranks before advancing through Councillor, Mayor, Senator, Governor, and Premier. Promotions can recognize residences, businesses, towns, cities, and increasingly ambitious public infrastructure, while unlocking more homes, NPCs, vehicles, station controls, and building permissions.
Server-side systems add elevators, vehicles, NPCs, WorldGuard regions, WorldEdit assistance, custom ranks, and TrainCarts transport. TrainCarts supports linked carts, adjustable movement, attachments, animations, and detailed vehicle designs without requiring players to install client-side mods.
The server includes multiple persistent worlds, including the Old World and New World, with towns, cities, rail corridors, roads, airports, and other long-lived player creations. The Dynmap is useful for finding locations, following MRT lines, and seeing how separate builds fit into the wider landscape.
PvP is a side activity rather than the server’s main focus. Designated PvP arenas use free-for-all rules and can be accessed through the server’s arena commands, while the wider world remains centered on building, transport, and community projects.
The server has a light in-game economy supporting businesses, lottery tickets, warp signs, and paid teleport commands. Money is useful around the wider community, but earning wealth is not the main progression path. Building, town development, and rank advancement matter more than grinding currency.
Members regularly organize community activities such as sports competitions, game shows, building activities, and other special events. Players can also submit event funding requests for approved activities that award in-game money as prizes.
The server is built around a small, long-term community of builders, transit enthusiasts, town leaders, and infrastructure planners. Guests can explore immediately, while accepted members gain building rights, expanded Discord access, project channels, and the ability to establish homes, businesses, towns, companies, and transport services.
Respect, consent, and preservation of other players’ work are central. Griefing and spam are prohibited, and building near another town generally requires permission, with a 300-block separation rule applying around registered towns. Major roads, canals, MRT extensions, and other infrastructure may need proposals, route plans, staff sponsorship, and permission from affected towns.
The server is primarily funded by its owner and accepts optional support through an official store. Supporter status starts at $10 CAD and adds cosmetic and convenience features such as colored chat, extra commands, and a supporter marker. General donations are also available without additional in-game compensation.
An organized transport network connects player destinations through scheduled or navigable routes, stations, and shared infrastructure.
The MRT system links stations, towns, and player-built areas across the Old World and New World using minecart rapid transit lines.
A membership-gated building system separates visitors from approved players who receive permission to construct or edit the world.
Guests can explore and ride transport systems, but applicants must become Members before receiving normal building and editing privileges.
Major shared infrastructure changes use a review process to coordinate routes, permissions, impacts, and community development.
New roads, canals, MRT extensions, and similar projects may require route plans, staff sponsorship, and permission from affected towns.
Players build on generally available shared land rather than receiving isolated personal plots, subject to community placement rules.
The server has no plot grid; land is generally first-come, first-served, while town spacing and nearby-owner permissions constrain placement.
Players advance through named community ranks that recognize participation, responsibility, achievements, or increasingly significant contributions.
Ranks progress from Member and Citizen through Trustee, town leadership, and city leadership, with promotions tied to building, trust, and projects.
Server-side vehicle systems let players operate or encounter transport designs with linked units, attachments, animations, or specialized appearances.
TrainCarts enables linked minecarts, adjustable speeds, animated attachments, and custom-looking trains, buses, aircraft, helicopters, and seaplanes.
Players can tour a persistent world by using publicly accessible transport routes to discover communities, landmarks, and connected destinations.
Guests may ride MRT lines and use public facilities while exploring towns, cities, airports, roads, and other long-lived constructions.

History of Minecart Rapid Transit
Minecart Rapid Transit grew out of Frumple’s automated minecart station experiments, first demonstrated in 2010. The public server opened on July 13, 2012, beginning the Alpha era with a creative world where players could build towns, roads, transit systems, and shared attractions.
The server later expanded beyond its original early world. The New World opened in October 2014 and became the main setting for version 5.0 MRT stations, connecting player-built towns and cities through a large rail network.
The current Delta era began in 2023. TrainCarts added linked minecarts, adjustable speeds, train attachments, animations, and support for custom-looking trains, buses, and aircraft. The server still follows its core guest-to-member model while continuing to develop its cities, transport systems, and community infrastructure.
