About SteamWar

SteamWar is built around designing machines instead of choosing a preset kit. Players get personal creative build servers for Redstone, TNT cannons, WorldEdit-style tools, Axiom and schematics. Finished creations can be tested, shared and taken into arena battles.

The main fights cover compact MiniWarGears, heavy WarGears, airborne AirShips and large WarShips. QuickGear gives players a faster way into a match, while rotating modes and extra minigames keep the network from feeling like one single arena.

What Makes It Different

Most Minecraft PvP servers hand you a kit. SteamWar asks you to design the weapon first. A good fight depends on Redstone timing, cannon layout, armor, movement and the tradeoff between firepower and a machine that can still survive.

SteamWar Gameplay

Start a personal build server with /bau, /b or /build. Build and test machines in creative mode, invite teammates, and use WorldEdit tools to shape the design. When you are ready, join an arena through /fight, the lobby portals, /arena or /join.

History of SteamWar

SteamWar was founded on May 18, 2019, by AdmiralSeekrank. Its first recorded event, PublicClash2019, took place on September 14 that year and used MiniWarGear, WarGear, WarShip and AirShip battles across 15 fights.

The network reached its first 10,000 play hours in February 2020 and its 10,000th fight in June 2020. Those early milestones already covered several machine classes, from small WarGears to ships and air combat.

A new build world arrived in January 2021. In March, SteamWar released its first public simulator, followed by the first WarGearSeason, a long team competition that ran from March through July with 77 fights.

The replay system began saving fights in August 2021. Players could keep watching old battles instead of losing them when the match ended, giving the network a lasting archive of its machine designs and tactics.

SteamWar passed 10,000 saved schematics in November 2022. By then, its replay archive had already reached 10,000 entries, and the server's different machine formats had developed their own rules, building limits and competitive styles.

The 100,000th fight was played in April 2023. The 10,000th player joined in January 2024, marking a major expansion beyond the early event community.

In January 2025, a failed proxy server and damaged drive forced SteamWar to be rebuilt on new hardware. Backups preserved the main server and database data. The network returned under dampfkrieg.de on January 14, then restored steamwar.de and launched a new website on January 20.

SteamWar reached 100,000 saved replays in February 2025 and 500,000 play hours in May. Current development includes a more flexible build system and a WarGear AI opponent, while the network continues to run its machine arenas, rotating modes, minigames and team events.
