Minetown has been running since September 2010, and it still keeps a piece of its first map under the glass floor of the lobby. Today the main survival world is Idarun, a long-term map with land claims, player shops at spawn, warps, clans and towns, all built around the server money, MTC. A Creative map sits next to it for pure building.
The server calls itself laid back and friendly, with a focus on survival and economy instead of a long list of minigames, and no pay-to-win. Java and Bedrock players share the same world, and chat is in English.
What Makes It Different
One of the oldest running Minecraft communities, with four main maps since 2010 and a world, Idarun, that is planned to stay for many years.

Idarun is a long-term survival map and the heart of the server.
You settle on Idarun, claim land and build a base, a town or a shop. Players buy warps and linked portals to connect their places, and spawn has small shop plots you can rent with MTC.
Idarun opened in January 2022 and is the fourth main map. It has a live web map, and claims keep space between bases so new builds do not crowd old ones.
MTC is the server money. You spend it on spawn shop plots, warps, teleport gates and custom portals, and trade with other players through shops and the auction house.
Players can vote for the server every day for rewards, apply for staff or as content creators, and talk in proximity voice chat with the optional Simple Voice Chat mod.
Griefing and raiding are banned, even on unclaimed builds, and player traps are not allowed in the overworld. Hacks, duping and automation tools like printers or autoclickers are banned, while minimaps and OptiFine are fine. Swearing is allowed in moderation, but not at other players.
The store sells cosmetics you can use across the servers, and the site says the server is not pay-to-win.
Shops, towns, arenas and monuments can buy a public warp with MTC, and linked custom portals connect places too.
The auction house is for real trades only, so junk listings and shop ads are not allowed.
Both the Idarun survival map and the Creative map have their own web map you can browse.
You can rent a 9x9 shop plot at spawn with MTC, but you must keep it stocked or lose it.
Claims protect your builds on Idarun, and new claims must keep a set distance from other players' bases.
You can vote for the server every day and get in-game rewards each time.
The store only sells cosmetics, and the server says it is not pay-to-win.
With the optional Simple Voice Chat mod you can talk to nearby players or join a private group.
Java and Bedrock players join the same Minetown worlds.

History of Minetown
Minetown opened on September 22, 2010, just after Minecraft's Halloween Update. Its first map, Classic, was the main world until 2012, and part of its spawn still sits under the glass floor of the lobby.
Agharta took over as the main SMP from 2013 to 2015. Then came Main, which opened on May 4, 2016 and ran until January 2022, the longest survival map in the server's history. In May 2018 the Eximius network wound down and Minetown became independently run.
Idarun opened on January 28, 2022 with a new economy, claims and cosmetics. A new website arrived in December 2023, and the March 2024 update added custom portals, voice chat and VR support.
