Your first hour on Knockturn starts with a sorting quiz that picks your house, then a walk through London to buy books and a wand. From there you head to the Academy, where automated classes teach 13 subjects over seven years. Pass lessons and exams, earn points and year up, or sit in on classes that other players teach in character.
The castle hides sparkling nodes with money, magical items and secret passwords. Houses battle in Broomball matches and seasonal events like the House Cup. Outside school, a separate survival server has a protected Towny world for building towns. The server is in English, runs on Java Edition and is rated for ages 13 and up.
What Makes It Different
A full school year system: automated classes with lessons, homework and exams, plus player professors, decide when your character moves up a year.
More than 450 spells to learn, plus wands, potions and brooms.

You play a student at a magic Academy. Tutorial quests start with Tom in London, then you attend classes, cast spells, explore the castle and roleplay with other students.
To move up a year you finish your classes and exams, meet a points goal and fill your experience bar. From year 3 you pick electives, and year 5 exams decide which subjects you can keep for years 6 and 7.
PvP needs both players to agree, except in a few open areas like the forest. You can turn offensive spells on or off with a command, and Towny areas follow their own PvP settings.
Houses compete in Broomball, a flying team sport with 30-minute season games. Seasonal events have included winter snowball fights, a Holi festival, a spring bee race and a winter ball.
Players roleplay as witches, wizards or wix. Professors are players too, and they enforce roleplay rules with house point losses and detention rather than bans.
The server is rated 13+. Hateful speech and swearing at others are not allowed, flying indoors costs points, and copied homework gets zero points.
Fighting or casting on other players needs their consent, except in a few open areas like the forest.
On the survival server, a Towny world lets you build towns that are protected from griefing.

You pick a roleplay name and get sorted into a house and one of 16 personality types by an intro quiz.

History of KnockturnMC
Knockturn Networks opened its castle gates in 2014. Its gallery shows a busy community from 2019 to 2021, with house photos in the castle courtyards, a Christmas 2020 snowball fight in the great hall, a Holi festival and a Lunar New Year celebration in 2021.
In 2026 the server shipped Broomball in update 26.1, after more than five years of on and off work on the flying sport. The same year brought a Valentine's week, a spring bee race, the House Cup and a winter ball.
