About Sam's Minecraft Server: Hardcore Mode
Last updated
You spawn in the middle of an ocean up to 50,000 blocks wide. Dive to flooded mineshafts for planks and cobwebs, then swim for land and pick through 15 years of abandoned bases. This is vanilla hardcore, and the map will never be wiped.
Death locks you in spectator mode. The Arbiter bot opens a poll in the Graveyard, and the other players vote you back or leave you waiting until the automatic revive after three days. New players get free instant respawns in their first 24 hours. After that, Vote Points and Life Insurance are your safety net.
What Makes It Different
Dying does not end your run or reset it. A bot puts your fate to a player vote, and you can buy Life Insurance with Vote Points from player-run insurers.
Hardcore mode where death locks you out until players vote you back or three days pass.
The network describes itself as 100% vanilla Minecraft.
Only two rules, and griefing and stealing are allowed.
Survival from an ocean spawn on a map that is never wiped.
Vote Points pay for respawns, insurance, teleports, auctions and gamerule bids.
Survive the ocean spawn, find land and scavenge old ruins. Every day at 16:30 UTC a one-hour poll lets players bid Vote Points on gamerules like keep inventory, mob griefing and phantoms.
The map started on an old server called Swim and has been around since Beta 1.8. The spawn sits in a huge ocean, and cracks in the sea floor lead to mineshafts over 15 years old.
Everything runs on Vote Points: 200 per vote, 400 on weekends. You spend them on store items, teleports, a weekly auction, bounties, gamerule bids and ads on the server radio and newspaper.
There are two rules: treat others with respect and do not lag or crash the server on purpose. Griefing and stealing are allowed, so keeping your base and loot safe is your job.
The official pages list no real-money purchases. Respawn buyouts, Life Insurance and the store all use Vote Points from voting, and the site says you cannot spend money to free yourself.
Griefing and stealing are within the rules, so you protect your own base and valuables.
A weekly auction lets players bid Vote Points with a chat command.
Each vote gives 200 Vote Points, or 400 on weekends, with extra for streaks and linked accounts.
You can spend Vote Points to put a bounty on another player.
The site says you cannot spend money to free yourself; respawns and insurance cost Vote Points.
Players can found their own Life Insurance company or buy into an insurer's pool with Vote Points.
The map has been around since Beta 1.8 and the owner says it will never be wiped.
When you die, the Arbiter bot opens a Graveyard poll and players vote YAY or NAY on bringing you back.

History of Sam's Minecraft Server: Hardcore Mode
The map began on Swim, the first server its keeper ever joined, and has been around since Beta 1.8 in 2011. Years later Sam found Swim's owner, inertia186, and got a copy.
In February 2026 the server opened its own forum, and from March 2026 a bot has posted a Hardcore Server daily summary every night.
The economy got a rebalance in August 2026, with a cap on Vote Points and exploits patched. The 26.3 update followed in September 2026. In October 2026 Life Insurance arrived, letting dead players skip the Graveyard poll if their cover pays out.
