About Halcyon: The Dark Ages
You start in a handmade medieval world 20,000 blocks across, with no teleports and no way to skip the night. Crops only grow in certain biomes, so towns must trade, build roads and dig underground railways to reach each other. Health comes back slowly, and enchanting, brewing, villagers and auto farms are held back.
Halcyon is a Java server in English that stays on the latest vanilla version. Players found factions with their own ranks and land, then earn standing through war, research, faith and city building. Break your oaths and the karma system may curse you; the most cursed turn into monsters at night. There is no wiki: you learn the world from books and other players. The server rules ask that players be 16 or older.
What Makes It Different
A karma system tracks honour, oaths and prayers, and the most cursed players turn into monsters at night.
A medieval world of kingdoms, faith, sieges and ransom, run by a medievalist.
Players found factions with their own land, ranks and permissions.
Oaths, prayers, honour and diplomacy shape how players treat each other.
Slow old-school survival where nights can't be skipped and health returns slowly.
Open PvP with theft, sieges and assassination, while builds stay protected.
Old-school survival: nights cannot be skipped and health comes back slowly and only under certain conditions. Progress comes from deeds, research, trade, religion and rallying other players rather than farms or exploits.
A handmade, geologically simulated world of about 20,000 by 20,000 blocks with distinct biomes. With no teleporting, players build roads, waystations and underground railways.
PvP, theft, sieges and assassination are part of the game, but builds are protected from griefing. Wars turn on captives, ransom, reputation and diplomacy.
The world's history, politics and religion live in in-game books and in what players pass on to each other. The server describes itself as inclusive and queer-friendly, and voice chat is optional.
No minimaps, coordinate displays, cave finders, entity radar, fullbright packs, macros or bots. Harassment, bigotry and trash talk are not allowed, and building just to make things ugly or upset others counts as griefing.
The whole map is a handmade, geologically simulated world about 20,000 blocks across with distinct biomes.
Factions claim land with their own ranks, permissions and sub-areas, and builds are protected from griefing.
Crops and saplings only grow in certain biomes, so towns depend on trade with other regions.
Nobody can teleport, so travel means building roads, waystations and underground railways.
Reputation, ransom talks and alliances between factions matter as much as fighting.
Wars bring sieges, theft and assassination, with captives taken and held for ransom.
Optional proximity voice chat lets you talk to players standing near you.
Honour, oaths and prayers earn blessings or curses, and the most cursed players become monsters at night.
