About BuildTheEarth
BuildTheEarth is a huge collaborative Minecraft project recreating the real world at 1:1 scale. The central Java hub connects visitors to featured regions, cities, landmarks, and separate Build Team servers.
You can simply explore, or join a regional team and help build. Teams focus on different countries and areas, with their own servers, Discord communities, building standards, and onboarding steps. The project is closer to a living digital atlas than a normal Survival server.
What Makes It Different
The map is not fantasy terrain or a themed city. It is a shared, life-sized copy of the real Earth, built by regional teams that recreate places people actually know.
Earth servers use a Minecraft map based on real-world geography, giving building, travel, and settlement a recognizable setting of continents, countries, and cities.
The defining purpose is recreating the real Earth at 1:1 scale.
A persistent world is a Minecraft server world that keeps its player-made changes and ongoing progress across repeated visits.
The project continuously expands a long-term shared recreation of the planet.
The main activity is exploring real locations and helping construct them accurately. The hub provides a central way to reach featured regions, while each Build Team server handles its own building work. Construction may involve recreating landmarks, streets, houses, public buildings, and whole city sections.
Progress is based on building skill and team access rather than gear or levels. Some regions let approved builders work broadly, while others unlock more complex projects as players gain experience and complete simpler builds. New players can start with a small structure and learn through team guidance.
Real-world terrain is generated with BuildTheEarth tools, and the project uses a custom map projection to place locations correctly. The `/tpll` command is important for positioning structures because ordinary Minecraft coordinates do not fully account for the project's projection. TerraPlusPlus and related tools form part of the project's technical foundation.
The world represents Earth at 1:1 scale, with each Minecraft block standing for roughly one cubic meter in the recreated environment. BuildTheEarth is split across regional servers rather than one complete master save. The central hub links selected regions, and the project map shows where work has been completed.
Regional teams can run collaborative building events and local projects. A notable early event had MrBeast Gaming and other players recreate a hometown area during a 24-hour build.
The community is organized around a central Discord and many regional Build Team Discords. Teams provide tutorials, feedback, mentorship, technical help, and project coordination. Builders can join multiple teams and work in areas that interest them.
A premium Minecraft account is required. Cracked copies are not supported. Building rules, approval steps, access levels, and quality standards vary between regional teams, so contributors follow the process of the team they join.
Exploration is free, while Patreon support can provide access to selected world downloads, schematics, and supporter Discord areas. Regional teams may operate their own Patreon pages and supporter benefits.

History of BuildTheEarth
BuildTheEarth began in March 2020 after YouTuber PippenFTS launched the idea of recreating the entire planet in Minecraft at real-world scale. The project quickly attracted builders who wanted to model their own towns, landmarks, and neighborhoods.
The early project depended on technical tools such as Terra++ and Cubic Chunks. These made large-scale terrain generation and extreme building heights possible. A custom projection was also needed to fit the globe into Minecraft while keeping real places in the right relative positions.
Interest grew rapidly during the first months of the project. Mojang featured BuildTheEarth around Earth Day on April 22, 2020, and a July 2020 MrBeast Gaming event brought a large audience to the idea through a timed hometown build.
As the map expanded, the project moved toward a regional team structure. Groups took responsibility for countries, states, cities, and other areas, each working on its own server and coordinating through Discord. That structure allowed several parts of the world to develop at once instead of forcing every builder into one central construction area.
Large regional efforts followed, including major work in New York City, Germany, Ireland, Chile, Argentina, and many other locations. Some teams concentrated on dense city centers and famous landmarks, while others worked outward through ordinary homes, roads, schools, and rural areas.
The project has never been built around a fixed completion date. Its world is too large for a conventional finish line, so teams continue adding regions as builders have time and interest. Finished areas are also released through selected regional downloads and supporter programs.
Today, BuildTheEarth combines a central Java hub with a broad network of regional servers. Visitors can move between featured builds, while contributors join a team, learn the projection and building tools, and add another real place to the shared Earth.
