About The Canopy
The Canopy is a Java survival SMP that keeps Minecraft close to vanilla while adding practical tools for community play. Players build bases, towns, farms, shops, and shared projects instead of following a large RPG class or kit system.
What Makes It Different
The Canopy mixes a relaxed, build-first SMP with carefully managed shared spaces. Land claims, a shopping district, a mapped Nether tunnel system, and custom advancements give the world more structure without turning it into a heavily modified server.
Vanilla servers use Minecraft’s original blocks, items, rules, and progression without custom gameplay systems that redefine how players play.
Its gameplay is intentionally kept close to vanilla Minecraft.
Land claims are protected areas that let a player or group control who can build, break, and interact with blocks inside a marked part of the world.
Staff-reviewed land claims are a major protection and community-planning system.
An SMP is a multiplayer Minecraft survival world where players gather resources, build, and progress alongside one another.
The server is a community-focused survival multiplayer world.
Survival servers let players gather resources, craft gear, build shelter, and develop a base while staying alive in a dangerous world.
The primary server mode is survival.
Gameplay stays close to standard Survival. The main activities are building, farming, exploring, making towns, running shops, and joining community projects. Plugins mainly support moderation, claims, mapping, portals, and other practical server tools.
Progression is mostly player-directed. Custom advancements give explorers extra goals, while towns, farms, shops, and large builds provide longer projects. There is no evidence of a large class, kit, or dungeon progression system.
Custom advancements add server-specific goals beyond the normal advancement tree. Small datapack and quality-of-life additions have also been used to support building and community play.
The world uses Dynmap for a near-real-time overhead view of builds and explored areas. Nether travel is organized around a hub and four main directional tunnels, with portal placement rules designed to keep routes usable. A soft border helps preserve room for future world development.
PvP requires mutual agreement between players. The rules also prohibit griefing, stealing, unfair mods, duplication, and exploit abuse, so combat is not the main source of tension.
The server has a designated shopping district and community market spaces. Geoffrey provides shop and location functions, while players can organize their own trading around towns and shared builds.
Community events are a regular part of the server's social life, alongside group builds, town projects, and shared gatherings.
The Canopy is LGBTQ+ friendly and aims for a relaxed, collaborative atmosphere. New players can look around through a greylist before applying. The community is aimed at older teens and adults and uses Discord for applications, claims, and coordination.
Respect other players, do not grief or steal, and repair accidental damage. Game-changing mods such as x-ray and flying cheats are forbidden. Duplication and unfair exploits are banned; TNT duplication is allowed only under the server's conditions. PvP must be mutually agreed upon.
Donations help cover server costs. Donor perks include CoreProtect inspection tools, formatted chat and sign text, /hat, Dynmap visibility controls, /rename, a special Discord and in-game role, and the ability to buy a player head with diamonds.
